July Chef of the Month

Brooklyn born and raised, Jheam grew up working at his father’s two bodegas in the Bronx. And as any New Yorker can tell you, working the outer boroughs will prepare anyone for all walks of life, at all hours of the day, with all the appetites a human being could possibly have.

This is probably where Jheam learned to embody DIG’S “No Bullshit” value. His whole life, he’s been focusing on solutions: never focusing on what’s wrong, but what you do right – and do well.

He’s been a natural fit in kitchens since; being motivated to try new things and be flexible are the secret sauce in success, and sometimes, yes, in the actual secret sauce.

Starting at DIG in 2017 as a Chef in Training, he has since received multiple promotions due to his determination, consistency, and willingness to help others. A passion for food that’s only matched by a determination to help his peers succeed, Jheam has grown into an invaluable leader within our family.

But don’t take it from us. Listen to what his peers have to say about him.

“When there is an opportunity to further the business, Jheam answers the bell. Every. Single. Time.”

“He has truly grown into having an owner’s mentality of his business while taking advantage of any opportunity to assist a teammate in need.

“Complain? Not Jheam. He doesn’t have time for that. He knows there is an employee, fellow, leader, or guest he can be helping instead.”

DIG is, in many ways, a celebration: of food, of family, of the moments we share around the table. This month we are celebrating what Jheam has given to our restaurant, and are proud to partner with JetBlue to give him a roundtrip on us. Thank you, Jheam!
